Seminole Hospital District was created with the enactment of Senate Bill 443, passed on April 7, 1971 and was officially established April 29, 1971. With the creation of Seminole Hospital District the District Board of Directors began the construction of Memorial Hospital, which would later become the cornerstone of healthcare services in Seminole and Gaines County .
Over the years, Seminole Hospital District has expanded services to meet the growing needs of our community.
- In 1988, Memorial Hospital opened two new services: swing bed hospital care and the Memorial Home Health Agency.
- In 1990, the M.S. Doss Fitness Center was opened, providing exercise activities to the community and promoting individual wellness.
- In August of 1994, Memorial Health Care Center opened its doors to provide residential nursing care to the elderly of our community.
- In 1995, Memorial Hospital sought and received Texas State Level IV Trauma designation in order to improve emergency services.
- In 1997, construction of Seminole Family Medical Clinic was completed. Also, in 1997 construction was also completed on Memorial Place Assisted Living.
- In 2003, Memorial Hospice opened providing an extra special kind of care to those diagnosed with a terminal illness.
- In 2004, Memorial Hospital completed expansion of the physical therapy department. The M.S. and Meek Lane Doss Physical Therapy Center provides therapy services to Memorial Home Health patients, to Memorial Health Care Center residents, to Memorial Hospital swing bed patients, and on an outpatient basis.
It has been the mission of Seminole Hospital District to "provide cost effective, quality health care programs which contribute to the physical, psychological, and social wellbeing of the community we serve." In fulfilling that mission, the citizens of Seminole and Gaines County have a continuum of care that far exceeds most rural communities.
