What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy is a skilled, professional treatment that helps people to restore normal functioning and improve mobility. Our team of physical therapists, through a variety of tests and evaluations, design individualized patient treatment plans and patient goals. Through therapeutic exercises, endurance training, training in activities of daily living, hydrotherapy, comprehensive wound care, electrical stimulation, and more, each patient receives the therapy needed to reach their goal. The department also utilizes underwater treadmills that allow a patient to exercise without weight bearing stress to the joints.
Physical therapy should be ordered in the following instances:
- Following orthopedic surgeries such as rotator cuff repair, spinal surgeries and knee surgeries including total knee replacement, meniscus and ligament repairs
- Work-related injuries
- Strokes, head or spinal injuries
- Injury from falls or other accidents
- Broken bones or amputations
- Prevention or treatment of sports-related injuries
- Disorders such as multiple sclerosis, arthritis and cerebral palsy
- Other circumstances may also require physical therapy
Comprehensive Wound Care Services
We are pleased to have a Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) on staff at the M.S. & Meek Lane Doss Physical Therapy Center to provide you the best in wound care treatment. Our CWS has chosen to specialize in wound care and wound management and has received Certified Wound Specialist Board Certification through the American Academy of Wound Management. The knowledge and skills brought to the table by our CWS result in effective wound management and better, faster healing for our patients.
Physical therapy and wound care services do require the order of a physician, chiropractor, dentist, podiatrist, physician’s assistant or advanced nurse practitioner.
